Seven Gatesville High School students were arrested Friday night on charges of possessing less than two ounces of marijuana. A responding officer found the drugs hidden in a tape player after stopping a departing van. students were released to parents and will appear before juvenile authorities.
Milam County Sheriff Le Roy Broadus and deputy John G Brooks were among 86 law enforcement officers at a week long course in Austin. The five day school, co sponsored by the Department of Public Safety and the Sheriffs Association of Texas, prepared 66 newly elected sheriffs for their Jan 1 1977 start. Instructors from federal and state agencies detailed resources and duties for new office holders. Twenty attendees were deputies or chief deputies in Texas sheriff offices.
Judge Don Humble who took office September 1 attended an orientation school in Huntsville designed to teach new Texas judges basic court procedure. The Texas College of the Judiciary met December 5-10 at Sam Houston State University’s Criminal Justice Center.
A three vehicle collision shortly after noon Wednesday sent a Cameron woman to the hospital and caused heavy damage to the cars. The crash began when H F Huebner crossed Croketton Main and was struck by Wanda Houston, with the wreckage then hitting Kathryn Chamberlain, all of Cameron. The Huebner driver was treated at a local hospital. A tank truck driver from Fort Worth overturned after running a stop sign, then was held for observation. A Houston pickup rollover Friday on Highway 77 at Burlington caused no injuries.
A Yee High School Business Law class survey interviews 124 people showing less than 9 percent always wear seat belts and about 66 percent never wear them. About 25 percent sometimes wear belts, aligning with national surveys.
