Thousands fill Cameron for the annual Yule Parade as Santa Claus arrives with a large Christmas entourage. Milam County courthouse square becomes a hub of smiles as children whisper to Santa and share Christmas lists, marking the start of the Yuletide season.
The Red Cross bloodmobile will stop at the First Presbyterian Church basement in Cameron to collect donations for the Central Texas Blood Center. About 20 volunteers will assist, led by Richard Moseley, with Dr Clifford Swift in charge of medical staff and Mrs F B Jackson coordinating canteen and clerical help. Donations run noon to 6 pm, and a pint can save a life.
Milam County voters supported government marketing quotas for cotton with 256 yes to 69 no marking a broader Cen Texas trend though most counties favored quotas last year. Box counts showed Buckholts narrowly opposed while others supported quotas to aid price supports at about 75 percent of parity with penalties for overplanting.
Four Black suspects were in the county jail at presstime on shoplifting charges after police nabbed them Tuesday in downtown Cameron. About $120 worth of clothing and items were missing from a Cameron department store. Meter Officer Marshall Terry detained two others in a separate store. Officials say shoplifters have been operating through Central Texas cities this week. One

Bill Arthur chairman of the Chamber of Commerce announces the need for 100 sponsors for the county junior broiler show. Chickens issued to growers February 28 with the show and banquet planned for May 3. E D Parnell of the Poultry Department at Texas A&M College will judge the show and officiate at the banquet.
Milam County 4H poultry judging team took first in market poultry judging at the National Invitational Poultry Judging Contest in Chicago. The group scored 3986 of 4500, finishing 17 percent behind the top team, with six divisions judged and sixteen states represented.
Cameron Jaycees ask for hundreds more donated toys this week for the second annual Santa Pals project. Project Chairman Henry Schuttle says dolls, doll toys, and tricycles are urgently needed for repair and delivery to underprivileged Cameron youngsters. A screening committee is selecting names and donations may be sent to Santa Pals. The Cameron Herald Workers begin repair schedules to handle a expected rush.
Thousands of Milam Countians filled Cameron downtown for an 82 unit Christmas parade led by Santa in 1957. About 3 000 to 4 000 watched as four floats won prizes totaling 80 dollars. Bands from Yee High and Thermas High joined patrols from sheriff city and state police on a 40 minute parade route ending at the courthouse square. Trades Day prizes were announced around the event with further awards planned for 3:30 p.m.
Voters in the San Gabriel Watershed District will decide January 14 if bonds totaling 140 900 will be issued to fund the watershed portion of a flood risk reduction project on the San Gabriel River and its tributaries. The district covers Burnet Williamson Milam counties and aims to construct 50 to 60 small dams, financed by a 6 cent tax rate per 100 valuation, with directors also elected that day.
Mrs Wiley Loughmiller introduced the film Individual Differences at Cameron Parent-Teacher Association meeting. The program covered teachers approaches to children and proper use of school records. Mrs Robert Foster reported on a trip to the state PTA meeting in Galveston and a coffee urn was bought through PTA fund-raising.
Bassel Wilson, owner of the Wilson Elevators in Cameron, is recovering in a local hospital from a head injury suffered Monday when a hammer fell from a newly installed grain bin at his EK First Street operation. He was rushed to Cameron hospital after the incident.
