Reverend C. A. Lehmberg laid to rest in Bartlett

The Rev. C. A. Lehmberg, former Cameron Methodist pastor, died December 2 1932 at his Bartlett home. Born 1874 in Castell Llano County he served many charges including Cameron Crockett Houston and Palestine. Funeral held December 4 at Bartlett Methodist with burial beside a son.

Legionnaires Host Scout Talk and Sketch Auction

Joe Lindle's Troop entertained the Edwin Hardy Post at a Tuesday meeting with a talk on scouting benefits. Scouts performed music, Ted Matula sketched portraits of three Legion members and sold them to fund a new troop banner. About 200 Post members paid for 1933, one of the state’s largest. Committees planned a Christmas party and a giveaway of a new W-Eight Ford Coach at Hefley Stedman Motor Co.

Suits Set in Bay Failure Litigation

State Banking Commissioner Jas Shaw has filed suit against J C Tucker and Geo T Graves in District Court over garnishee actions. Burlington State Bank’s liquidation through Citizens National Bank is involved. Defendants’ stock used for depositor assessments remains unpaid and the commissioner seeks payment.

Lions Sponsor Christmas Lighting For Cameron Street

Street lights for the holidays are sponsored by the Lions Club. Workmen updated the system this week and are set to be lit Monday night for Santa Claus’s visit. W. D. Bigbee of Corsicana spent the weekend with his wife and family.

Lehmberg Family Mourns Local Death

In Bartlett area services friends and relatives attend the funeral of a local resident. Deceased is survived by his wife Lydia Hempel Lehmberg and children Esther Gribbel Moerner Ruth Lewis Lee Lehmberg Milton Lehmberg Maybelle Lehmberg plus a brother teaching at Southwestern University and other relatives. A large Cameron attendance marked the service.

Whale Exhibit Here Monday December 12

Thousands of Americans will view a 72 ton finback whale near Cameron on Monday December 12 in a specially built rail car at Ss. P. Depot. The whale, 65 feet long, is preserved after a dramatic battle with whalers off Sam Clemente Island, California.

Club House Rebuild Approved For Cameron County

The Cameron County Club House, over half destroyed by fire on November 17, is awarded for rebuilding to J. F. Brown by the Board of Directors. Brown's crew began work Monday and aims to complete swiftly, promising Christmas dances can proceed as usual.

Williamson Buried at Merkel On December 4

Mr and Mrs L L Blaylock returned from Merkel where they attended the funeral of J M Williamson Sunday afternoon. He died Saturday night December 3 and was buried from the First Baptist church in Merkel, laid to rest in Merkel cemetery. He was a native of Milam county and reared at Corinth near Cameron. He married Priscilla Payne in 1890 and moved to West Texas in 1908 to farm. Mrs Williamson is sister to Mrs Blaylock and others who attended.

Correction notice on bank time deposit rate

The Herald corrects an error in last week’s Citizens National Bank ad. Time deposits were shown at 4 percent but the valid rate is 3 percent. Phillip Reid, cashier, says inquiries prove readers monitor earnings. The Herald regrets the mistake and notifies depositors of the 3 percent rate.

Chas Brady Elected Secretary of Cameron Lions Club

Charles Brady of the B. and B. Studio is elected secretary of the Cameron Lions Club to replace Geo Gott who resigned. Brady will remain assistant secretary. The club ordered a pin for Mr Gott in appreciation of his services.

Correction In Vote at Salty Box

The Champion corrects an error in Salty box results for the governor race. The returns should show 26 votes for Mrs Ferguson and 6 for Bullington, not the reverse, as printed by the Commissioners Court. The correction preserves the community’s reputation and notes only six of 33 votes were party bolters.

Saint Nick Parade Invites Cameron Children to 6 30 Visit

Santa Claus will visit Cameron Monday evening at 6 30 to greet local children. The Lions Club sponsors a parade with music and candy from a truck. Santa arrives by airplane and plans to greet hundreds of children along the parade route, with turkeys and flour sacks to be distributed to a few lucky youngsters.
