Milam Farmers to Develop ACP Plan for 1952

Milam County farmers will be asked to create conservation plans under the 1952 Agricultural Conservation Program to boost current and future food and fiber production. Chairman Paul C Graves urges using existing progress and public investment in conservation while leveraging state and federal aid and SCS and Extension Service assistance. Community committeemen will visit farmers to help choose priority practices for 1952.

Fire At J C Penney Causes Limited Damage

A fire in the show window of the J C Penney Company around 6 15 P M Wednesday was discovered and put out before much damage. Officials say defective wiring sparked the blaze starting in the left window destroying merchandise and fixtures worth about 300 dollars. Building damage may total 500 dollars. Narvie Caperton alerted the fire department which responded quickly.

Davilla School Tops Cameron Christmas Parade Floats

Floats for Cameron Milam County Christmas parade were announced by L G Smith. Davilla School won 15 dollars, Christian Church 10, St Monica 7.50, with Clarkson School B&P Women Club and Branchville Colored School each earning 5 dollars. Narvie Caperton chaired the planning with thousands watching Santa and the procession along 6:30 PM start.

Eight Milam Men Called for December Tenth Induction

Milam County Draft Board orders eight men to report December 10 for induction in Dallas. Solomon Wilfred Matthews Robert L Fisher Leon J Pittman Andrew Sheckles Thomas G Caffey Charles D Brooks Hubert Salano Silvestre will depart by regular bus at 1 15 PM from Milam Notes for arrival in Dallas for instructions and assignments.

Cameron Men Reserve Appointment On National Committee

The Cameron delegation joined 264 Texans named to national American Legion committees by National Commander Don ald Wilson. Appointments were recommended by State Legion Commander Charlie Gibson of Amarillo and include Joe D. O'Neill as advisory member of the marksmanship committee and Judge W A Morrison of the Court of Criminal Appeals on the distinguished guests committee. Joe Gerick joins the veterans preference committee.

S-Sgt Bruce Price and family visit local relatives

S-Sgt and Mrs Bruce Price and baby Debbie Sue from Scott Field Illinois spent several days in the home of Mr and Mrs Wright Price. S-Sgt Price has served about ten years. They left Thursday morning for Illinois where Mrs Price and the baby will stay with her parents and S-Sgt Price will embark from San Diego for foreign service.

Mrs. Tom Roberts of Plainview and former Cameron resident is a patient at Scott and White Hospital in Temple. The former Viola McClaren underwent surgery and, per Dr. Speed, is making good progress after recent treatment at the Scott and White Clinic.

Penney Store Sets Two Weeks Pay Year End Bonus

J C Penney Company approves a year end bonus equal to two weeks pay for all full time associates employed in 1951 with proportional amounts for part timers and those with less than a year. Over 50 000 Penney stores employees will receive the payment including 17 Cameron store workers. President A W Hughes says the bonus reflects 1951 results and future years depend on performance.

Mrs Frank Barrett of Yarrell ton is a patient at St Edward Hospital following surgery. She is reported resting satisfactorily and will remain in the hospital for a few more days. Friends hope she will soon be up and about again.

Central Texas Platoon Organized For Navy Enlistment

Chief W. W. Robbins of the Temple Navy Recruiting Station announced that Temple and Waco areas joined to form a Central Texas platoon for Navy enlistment after Christmas. Recruits will be processed in Dallas before Christmas and return home for the holidays. Ten applications have been accepted in Temple from men in Temple Eddy Cameron and Killeen.
