United Way Drive Opens with $10,000 Goal in Cameron

The Cameron Area United Way launched its drive for commercial accounts from December 1 to December 15 with a $10,000 goal. Agencies benefiting include the Council on Alcoholism, Day Care Center, Boy Scouts, Salvation Army, Red Cross, and more. James Hudson chairs the drive. City Announces Assessment Program For Housing Areas

The city gave a first reading to an assessment ordinance for paying projects in housing units areas including West 6th North Polk North Jefferson and West 7th streets. Property owners may pay in monthly installments over up to three years. A public hearing will follow the second reading. Also noted drainage issues on East 16th and East 17th from Lydia Krenek regarding material removal and runoff onto her property.

Building Donated For New Park Playground

The Community Development Agency receives a donated building from Hill Country Community Action Committee to serve the O J Thomas School area park yard. The facility will house a visiting nurse service and space for group activities once property is acquired and leveled.

Night Changed For Adult Class

Adult education classes moved from Tuesday to Monday and Thursday nights. Interested volunteers help to ward GED standing and should come to Room 8 at Yoe High on Mondays or Room 6 on Thursdays. Open to all 17 year olds and older seeking high school equivalency.

The Junior Historian Chapter of Yee High School sponsors its third annual History Fair at the National Guard Armory from December 8 to 10. Public viewing runs 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on December 9.

Yule Season Parade Opens in Cameron Downtown

A Santa Parade launches the yule season in Cameron with floats and entries lined up at Main and Crockett in front of the First Baptist Church. Prizes total 75 dollars with 35 for first 25 for second and 15 for third. Santa arrives at the mall on December 13 and 20 for children to share Christmas wishes.

Mall Movies Set By Cameron Chamber Of Commerce

The Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce Trade Committee will show films at the mall on Thursday December 4 at 6 30 p m The program starts with 25 minutes of cartoons followed by the 96 minute Walt Disney film Barefoot Executive Downtown stores stay open until about 9 p m so parents can shop while children watch Refreshments will be sold during the screenings.

Chartered Buses To Transport Fans For Yee Ham Shire Game

The Cameron Area Chamber of Commerce sponsors chartered buses from Cameron to Houston for the Yee Ham shire Fannett game at Tully Stadium. Buses depart 4 p.m. Saturday. student buses leave 2 30 P.M. Seats cost 8 dollars for adults and 1 dollar for students. Over 200 persons signed up. Yee High Band and football team also travel by chartered bus.
