Walter F. Sharpe announces the reopening of the Palace of Sweets on Friday December 10 with a 3:30 to 5 PM reception. The business resumes after fire damage to the New Herley Theatre and Palace stock and fixtures.
Following a fire on Wednesday the New Hefley Theater programs were moved to the Wonderland Theatre. The fire destroyed both projectors. Mike Coleman was injured and is recovering. Hefley plans to reopen the venue once repairs and new equipment arrive.
The Mil am County Baptist workers conference will be held with Little River church on December 6. Rev. Garrett organizes. Fidlowtte program includes devotional by Rev. Y Lemmons and talks on financing the kingdom past and present, Bible plan of finances, financing the church through the S S, lunch, board meeting, inspirational address by C M Bean, and a missionary address with stereoptican slides.
The note details Arthur Hugh Baskin losing his right arm at the Weems gin plant after his sleeve got caught in a press. He underwent amputation above the elbow and is reported doing well at the hospital. Baskin, a respected worker and son of Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Baskin, will remain for treatment.
Rev. L. J. Power arrives from Orange to Cameron and will deliver his first sermon Sunday morning at the Methodist church. Dr. Elrod, presiding elder, visits for services and the first quarterly conference. Power’s welcome from church, pastors, and citizens signals strong ministry ahead.
A federation of Cameron's church women is to be effected this week Friday at 0 30 o clock when all the women of all the churches are asked to meet at the Baptist annex Mrs Ben Atkinson chairman. It is hoped that the long felueca of co ordinate community service will be met by this organization. All women are urged to be present.
An antique note in Giles L. Arriett’s Cameron portfolio recalls Chief Monta Thomas and describes his former companion turning into a fat longhorn steer fattened on Aggie meat. Faith in the school remains, though many call the reason groundless.
Rev H G Kenney of the Presbyterian church delivered a Thanksgiving sermon at the Baptist Church on November 24 arguing bread alone cannot sustain life. He urged pursuit of higher things beyond material needs and noted unequal distribution of blessings.
The Anti-Saloon League schedules Dr. R. H. Bennett of Georgia to speak December 18 at the Cameron Methodist church on Obedience to Law. G. H. Lewis aided local setup as the league campaigns to keep dry laws and oppose any candidate favoring modification.
Friday at 3 30 p m the bi district championship football game between Marlin and Caldwell will be played on Lawless Green Field Cameron both teams have won their district titles and Cameron is the neutral site. A large crowd is expected as both towns bring strong followings and the title will be decided on local gridiron soil.
Mrs Leona Thing home economist of Tes Public Utilities Company conducts modern cooking demonstrations in the display room of Texas Public Utilities Company each afternoon this week from 2:30 to 4:30. She speaks on scientific cooking as part of free public lectures. The sessions feature an electric range and are backed by the utility company. J Me ger endorses the program as valuable to women interested in kind.
