The local draft board announced the first induction call for men into the armed forces since the Korean War. Nine registrants must report on September 29, with inductees sent to Dallas and names available after reporting. The army plans 100000 men monthly, in addition to Reserve Corps recalls.
Milam County Agent J D Moore announces a chase by the Chamber of Commerce Crop Committee to educate cotton farmers on destroying stalks to cut boll weevil carry over. Regulations in parts of South Texas require stalk destruction to prevent pink bollworm spread and boost yields. Farmers should plow under stalks after harvest and before frost to starve over winter weevils, reducing infestation. The program aims for county wide adoption after proven field results.
The State Highway Commission will re let contracts 1444 and 1445 for farm to market roads from Ben Arnold to Clarkson in September. Judge Dan Tyson notes engineers under estimated costs and defense demands have raised material prices, requiring new bids to fit available funds. The roads are crucial to serve a leading farming region.
Milam County recorded the lowest run-off primary vote totals in recent times with under 2000 voters. Early returns from five of 47 precincts showed small boxes and unlikely to alter the countywide tally. Cameron saw 442 votes for W A Morrison in Court of Criminal Appeals. other precincts reported very low totals with several precincts in the single digits. A full update was promised after all precincts reported. certification could occur as early as Tuesday under a new law. In the first primary Milam County cast over 3000 votes, with expectations of under one third in the run-off.

Cruz said many pickers would stay through the weekend and that farmers should list names with a local agency for reliable handling. The harvest is opening fast and labor supply is already near sufficient plus more workers are arriving.
Superintendent W. T. Hanes announced reserved tickets for the 1950 football season will be sold at Yee High Athletic Field from 7 to 9 P M each night through Friday. The new hours help workers and farmers unable to buy at the Cameron Theatre booth 9 A M to 12 noon. Milton Schiller reported about 250 tickets sold by 11 A M Wednesday with seats still available.
Two local beer dealers were arrested on August 26 for unlawful beer sales on a State Primary Election day. Zeke Jones a Santa Fe barbecue stand operator and Pedro Esquiviel a licensed dealer pleaded guilty before Judge Dan Tyson and paid $100 fines.
Mr and Mrs F J Zalesky of Cameron announce the birth of a son Kenneth Hayne on August 16 1950 at St Edward Hospital The baby weighed eight pounds twelve ounces The mother is Stella Burkeen Grandfather Frank Burkeen and the couple already have a son who will be two in October
F A Marek a long time Cameron businessman marks 55 years in town starting September 1 after arriving in 1895. He began with Lawrence and Smith Hardware, later ran a furniture store and undertaking business, then moved into real estate and bought Exchange Furniture in 1919.
Milam County farmers gain about 80 percent profit on eggs via the Ideal Hatchery storage system. In six weeks 8 851 dozen eggs were sold and trucked to Dallas, adding 734 63 in receipts versus standard selling would have lost. The co op proves benefits of concentrated marketing though volume remains small. Milam County was once third in Texas in egg production.
Milam County voting data lists several candidates with vote counts including Rameev 1007, Wilson 1117, Dickson 1160, Harwood 7905, Morrison 1823, Lattimore 238, and McDonald 1129 in agriculture. The record includes Court of Criminal Appeals and Supreme Court placements with multiple figures and unclear annotations.
Red haired John C. White of Wichita Falls appeared elected Texas commissioner of agriculture as final results favored White by about 13 000 votes over incumbent J E McDonald. County judge George Parr estimated Duval County adds about 4000 votes earlier, while Thavil reported about 4100 votes cast. McDonald, age 69, held a long tenure and clung to hope despite the gap.
Judge W A Morrison of the 20th Judicial District Milam County led the race for a seat on the Court of Criminal Appeals at the August primary with over 30 000 votes yet to be counted and a lead of more than 100 000 over R L Lattimore of Dallas. Morrison, 41, will take the oath in January 1951 and then reside in Austin while awaiting vacancy plans for his Milam County bench.
Cameron recorded 1.02 inches of rain from three showers starting Monday afternoon. L. W. Smith of the Water Plant noted heavier rainfall northeast of the city and lighter amounts near the gauge on Tuesday and Wednesday. The rainfall was not extensive and benefits are expected to be negligible.
