Liquor raid nets large still and two men’s arrest near Cameron

Sheriff Max Kennedy and Constable B F Bailey seized a large home craft still and 24 barrels of mash after a raid five and a half miles southwest of Cameron. Jim Kimbel and Mike Treadwell, Rogers residents, jailed on $1000 bonds each for unlawful manufacture and sale of intoxicants. storage of about 1200 gallons of mash and 40 gallons of whisky reported.

Cameron Gins Turn Out 3800 Bales

On Wednesday morning Cameron five gins reported ginning 3804 bales of cotton. The 1937 crop is estimated near 38000 bales. Showers across the county in recent weeks have caused some deterioration.

Tyson completes city budget for 1937 taxes

City Secretary and Treasurer Dan Tyson finalizes the 1937 38 budget for council review in September. The plan details 1936 37 receipts and 1937 38 projections with a property tax rate of 1.50 per 100 dollars, allocating 0.84 to general expenses and 0.66 to bonds and interest, while real and personal property value reached 3 342 317 an increase of 83 000. The 1.50 rate excludes 0.75 for public free schools.

Knights of Columbus Scouts to Exposition in Dallas

An officers meeting of the Knights of Columbus met at the hall with John C. Andres and other officers present. Plans were made to send Boy Scout Troop 52 to Dallas for the field mass at the Pan American Exposition this week. August G. Kunz is in charge. A going away dance for college student members is planned, and Grand Knight Andres says a new candidate class is expected soon.

C. Acrey pastor of the Presby terian church will be toastmaster at the 41st Anniversary banquet for postal employees in Waco. Mrs. Acrey will accompany him. The Cameron pastor has been widely sought for the role and friends here commend the choice by Waco postal workers.

Perkins parole revoked then rescinded after arrest

L. Van Perkins was arrested here Wednesday on federal parole violation charges from Washington. The order was rescinded the next day and he may travel to El Reno Oklahoma for a hearing. He had been sentenced in 1953 to three years for tampering with World War II veteran compensation checks.
