Texas jail standards staff renewed interest in a three county regional jail in Gatesville. Coryell County jail, aged 43, was faulted on 133 counts in a June inspection, with reports due on Hamilton and Bosque county jails. Lampasas police probe vandalism causing over 1000 dollars damage to a patrolman’s new car, a brownish acidic liquid splashed on the 1977 model last Friday night.

New acquisitions include an 1880 Milam County census, 1915 Cameron School class photos, a 1900s telephone display case, turn of the century clothing, a Cameron State Bank coin bank, a 1940 Houston Chronicle with 1915 reunion photos, a Webster's Blueback Speller, a hand painted fan, an 1862 Arkansas treasury warrant, farm tool wrench, a 1936 Rogers Weekly edition, farm tools, a leather lariat, and an 1880 census copy. The museum is open Tue Sat 9 am to 5 pm and Sun 1 pm to 5 pm.

Buckholts School Board Adopts Hot Weather, Regular Schedules

In a special meeting Buckholts school board set a hot weather schedule from 8 20 to 2 30 for the first three weeks and a regular 8 20 to 3 40 for the rest of the term Kindergarten will run 8 20 to 11 50 daily. Trustees hired Nelson Huffman as part time high school principal and junior high coach and Mrs Jean Ribar as part time elementary principal. Other hires include Arthur Hale as librarian for Buckholts Milano and Thorndale and Mrs Clara Balusek as head cook.

Sales Tax Rebates Jump Above State Average in Cameron Area

Cameron's rebates rise 21 percent from last year, totaling 68 428 so far this year versus 56 506 last year. August rebates range from 971 in Rogers to 5 057 in Caldwell, while Rockdale Calvert and Rosebud show strong gains. Lott posts a 24 percent increase. Rogers dips 9 percent. other area cities report gains.

Cameron Pumper Team Wins Second at Brenham

The Cameron Volunteer Fire Department pumper team took second place in the Firemen's Fiest last weekend at Brenham with a 20.2 second run. The squad earned a $50 prize and includes Henry Hore lica, captain Thomas Harwell, Jim Lafferty, Jim Delany, John Hairston, and Leslie Bruedigan. The Milano school board adopted a $348,000 1977 78 budget and named Citizens National Bank in Cameron as depository.

Year Round Vehicle Registration Begins January 1 1978

The state outlines a staggered year round system starting January 1 1978 with 12 month renewals for passenger cars and light trucks. 1977 registrations expire April 1 and must be renewed by that date. Personal plates remain unchanged.
