Frank Smith Dies in Bryan Hospital at 71

Frank Smith 71, brother of Cameron City Marshal A. E. Smith, died at 9 a m Wednesday in a Bryan hospital after a heart stroke and heat. He was returning from Houston to Rosebud when stricken. Funeral in Rosebud, hour not announced. Survived by seven living children and two brothers. several places in Texas noted.

Affidavits point to Granger men in Buckholts wounding case

Affidavits identify Willie Reisner and Joe Michal of Granger as the drivers in the 1935 Buckholts hit run that left two 15 year olds crippled. Limited by statute, no arrests can be made, but investigators have established guilt through eye witness affidavits after six years.

Milam County Manhunt Follows Escapee Cobb Rumor

Officers in Milam County plus highway patrol chased a man thought to be L C Cobb an escapee and killer. A Bryan resident was chased and identified himself with proof after being stopped at Branchville and Maysfield. Cobb escaped from a prison farm near Huntsville and was heading toward Cameron with lawmen blocking roads statewide.

Henry Pilling of Elm Ridge donates a neck brace to the Newton Clinic in Cameron. Built at Cameron Machine Shop under Dr. W. R. Newton Jr. the brace aided his late father after a farm hay baler accident. It is now available for others with similar injuries.

Man in Jail Here For Beating Wife

B. H. Rydell is jailed in Milam County on a wife beating charge. He was arrested Sunday night by Constables Pete Harwell and Gambill near Davilla. Rydell failed to pay a fine in Justice Court at Sharp and was transferred to Cameron jail.

Arrest in Silver City for Corn and Chicken Theft

G. P. Touchstone of Silver City was arrested by Constable Pete Harwell on Tuesday at about 10 a.m. at a car wrecking shop on the Slocomb Gin lot. He is charged with stealing three chickens from a neighbor sold to Fairmont Steamery Company and 119 bushels of corn from L. C. Boyd, later sold to A. N. Weems mill in Cameron. A seed fork was also sold to Weems. Touchstone lived on the Boyd farm.

City imposes 12am to 7am liquor ban on Deer-Whiskey area

City Council enacted an ordinance prohibiting liquor or beer sales within city limits from midnight to 7 a.m. and at any venue allowing dancing after 12 a.m. The measure aims to aid police efforts and curb late night drinking while allowing sales again after 7 a.m.

Louie Cohen Hurt in Truck Accident at Green and Boedeker Store

Louie Cohen was injured Friday night at 7 p m when struck by a truck operated by a store employee while at the Green and Boedeker store to pay his bill. He suffered a badly broken right hip and remained bedridden at home, with friends expressing regret over the accident.

N Renegar Dies in Waco at 86

J N Renegar 86, former Cameron resident, died Wednesday morning at his Waco home. Funeral services were held Thursday at Ben Arnold with burial in Ben Arnold cemetery after a Baldger-Haney service. Born in Nashville Tennessee, he moved to Milam County in childhood and married Elizabeth Bloomer in 1890. Survived by widow Elizabeth and two sons Milton and Odis, all of Waco.

Probation for Two Who Steal Gasoline

J B Lane and Luther Russell of Milano received probation from District Attorney W A Morrison after being arrested by Deputy Constable Ed Blackman for stealing gasoline from state road grade tanks. They were jailed briefly then released on probation Monday.

Family Trip Planned From Cameron to Seattle by Rail

Buckholts reward fund to be divided for hospital bills

Homer McLane leads a Milam county drive to recruit 500 volunteers for 2% observation posts under national defense. Register at Milam post offices 8 am to 5 pm Saturday August 23rd.
