Teacher Examinations Schedule Set For Cameron High

The Cameron school building hosts state and county teacher exams on August 31 to September 2. Subjects include History Education Physics American Literature Psychology Chemistry Plane Geometry and Algebra with seminars on Methods and Management Civics and Reading. County Supt Jim Chadwick notes no exemptions and urges teachers to attend the Institute studying How to Teach the Fundamental Subjects by Kendall and Mirick.

The Milam County Institute for white teachers will convene at Cameron Public School on September 4 and run the week. All contracted Milam County teachers must attend or risk certificate cancellation. attendance earns salary credit for the week as required by law.

Assessors Notified of New State Rate in Texas

Tax assessors of 249 counties in Texas have been advised by the comptroller's department by registered mail of the State automatic tax board action fixing the ad valorem tax rate at 20 cents per $100 valuation, with the school tax at 20 cents and Confederate pension tax at 5 cents. Collectors may proceed to collect taxes under the new rate.

Post Office Department Shows Large Savings in Mail Equipment

The Post Office Department reports major cost cuts from a restructured mail lock shop in Washington. New locks weigh less than half the old weight, with 430,000 units in service and a $53,750 production saving to date. Repairs drop from 36,000 old locks at nine cents to 906 new locks at three cents, yielding over $2,100 annually. Additional improvements include a low-cost cord fastener for bags, better labeling methods, steel replacements, and a cheaper flexible stamp design. The reforms aim at public savings and better service under the Fourth Assistant Postmaster General.

Graveling Liberty Hill road to Brushy Creek bridge

Work began this week to gravel a four thousand foot strip on Liberty Hill road from the San Gabriel road to Fritz Schwartz place. After finishing the strip the crew will patch and fill holes in Brushy and Turkey Creek bottoms. Thorndale Thorn.
