State Democratic Convention Set for September 7 in San Antonio

Arthur R. Eidson, chairman of the Texas Democratic executive committee, issues notice that the state convention will be held on September 7, 1926, in the Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio. Secretary Richard T. Fleming notes publication is needed due to ambiguity in the state law.

Grant Lumber to Move Yard and Build New Plant

The Grant Lumber Company has bought a half block from Mrs. Francis Luther across from the Mack Fox Filling Station and will move the yards in about six weeks. Manager F. R. Dumlop said a first class lumber plant and display facilities are planned.

Aggieland Dance Draws Large Crowd at Wayside VI

The Aggieland five from College Station performed to a large crowd at Wayside with attendees from Rosebud Marlin Rockdale and Hearne. On Monday night J. D. Lewis played to a large audience and another dance with J. D. Lewis and his orchestra is planned for Friday. Mr Cammer is praised for his management of the dances.

Cameron GEs First Bale in Cameron Texas Cotton 1926

H H Chamberlain of Walkers Creek produced Cameron’s first bale of 1926 cotton. Ginned at Batte’s No 2 gin in Cameron the 510 pound bale sold for 16 cents per pound with seed bringing total $5.60. Local businessmen raised 137.95 as a premium to encourage farmers to market in Cameron. Chamberlain praised the response and noted ongoing pest controls as leaf and boll worms are being fought amid hopes for normal production with a 30 day delay this year.

Cameron Natatorium in City Park opened Wednesday August 4 under Grady Houston. Water changes occur every other day with fresh water daily. Large crowds from city and nearby towns enjoy nightly swimming parties. Hours: weekdays 6 am to 10 pm, Sunday 6 am to 9 am and 2 pm to 7 pm. Admission 15 and 25 cents.

Pioneer S C Mayfield Dies at 79 At Cavilla Farm

S C Mayfield of Milam county died at his farm home 5 miles north of Cavilla August 7 1926 after a long illness. Funeral conducted by Rev W Binford Rogers at the home. He lived 54 years in Milam county and was born in Neosho Missouri in 1847. Survived by ten children and a widow. Buried in Verde cemetery near the old home.

Funeral Obituary for Frank Pretsch of Burlington Texas

Frank Pretsch aged 69 died at his Burlington residence on Wednesday July 28 after a lingering illness. Survived by his wife and six daughters, three in Milam county. Born in Germany, he moved to Milam county about 20 years ago settling in Burlington. Funeral services were held at the Catholic church in Burlington with burial in Burlington cemetery. A large number of friends from across the county attended. Pal bearers included Arnold Ploceck Jim Nolan Eid Gahil Albert Marek Jno Helpert Jno Smitton. Green Brn. Undertakers handled arrangements.

Mrs Josephine Michalka 72 died at her son J J Michalka's home in Camden on Friday noon August 6 1926 after long illness. Survived by four sons a daughter several grandchildren and relatives. Leland Green Sr leaves Alabama and will return next week with his younger brother Carroll Green and cousin Join Green of Rosebud who stayed with Mr and Mrs R Grayson in Huntsville this summer.
