Marriage at Courthouse Weekend Ends in Plain Wedding

A marriage occurred at the Courthouse Monday officiated by Judge John Watson. The groom J A Ditto about sixty from Hanover and bride Ethel Pound about seventeen summers were wed. The Baptist meeting at Walkers Creek near Cameron closed with forty two baptisms. Frank Salack, renter near town, will start picking cotton soon. Prospects for a Cameron cotton crop are poor due to rain.

Burning of Will Stanley Ends Grimes Family Murder Case

Temple Texas July 31. A mob of about five thousand overpowered guards stormed the courtroom and burned Will Stanley alleged murderer of the Grimes family at the public square. Stanley confessed before execution and implicated two others who fled. The Grimes family wife mother Maggie and Mildred seven months and Frank and Mary Frances seven months plus father William were found slain in Temple. Local officials report ongoing manhunt for two additional suspects.

Death of Joseph Hefley in South McAlester

Cameron friends learn of the death of Joseph Hefley a 33 year old former citizen of Cameron Oklahoma. He died of Brights disease and is survived by his wife daughter his parents Mr and Mrs Lafayette Hefley and several brothers and sisters. Hefley was a flour mill manager noted for a high moral life and church membership. Funeral was held Tuesday in South McAlester with many friends and the Cameron Herald extends sympathy.

Dr Gill Appointed Surgeon for Texas Confederate Home

Dr. J. M. F. Gill of this city was named surgeon for the Texas Confederate Home for old soldiers by the Board of Trustees at the Austin home. He will begin duties in September. Mrs Sue Cox Mrs Quaid Miss Ada Winnie and Miss Katherine Henderson left Monday for a Baptist encampment outing in Lampasas.

War contracts boost iron and steel demand in Europe and U S

A New York survey reports France and Britain placed large orders for high explosive shells totaling about 100000 rounds. France also secured 220000 tons of rounds bars for European munition production. General Electric bought 14000 steel rounds in Pittsburgh and plans 16000 tons more. Negotiations continue for 6000000 shells and 200000 tons of rounds steel bars with smaller firms supplying 1000 to 2000 rounds at 2.90 to 3 cents a pound.

Mrs Robert Elliott Dies At Home After Illness

Mrs Robert Elliott formerly Minnie Hill of Bell County died Sunday at her home after a ten day illness. She was about 34 and leaves five children. She was active in the Woodman Circle and Baptist church. Funeral Monday at home with Rev Baylock officiating and graveside rites at Oak Hill Cemetery. The town mourns with Officer Bob Elliott and his family.

Appointments to Confederate Home Board in Texas

Governor announces C N Witcher of Lampasas County and J H Bowman of Joshua Johnson County will join the Confederate Home board to fill vacancies created by the resignations of J S Parnell and W R Davis of Travis County.
