Contract Awarded For Reconstruction On US 79 Milam County
The State Highway Commission announced a 4.2 mile reconstruction contract on US 79 in Milam County to Downing Brothers Inc of Waco. The project between Rock Creek and Thorndale includes a new Salty Creek bridge, grade line, and a 44 foot wide surfaced roadway. Work is expected to take 225 days under resident engineer Carol D Zeigler of Hearne.

Homer Edney Stevens 69 of Gause died Sunday in a Hearne hospital after sudden illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Gause Baptist Church with Rev. M. Smith officiating. Burial followed in Gause Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Grace, three sons Michael J. Stevens, Joe L. Stevens, Homer E. Stevens Jr., a daughter Zola Kornegay, four brothers, and seven grandchildren.

funeral services pending for Robert E. Eugene of Cameron who died in a truck car collision on Texas 19 near Athens early Monday. The Dorsey Funeral Home noted Eugene, a father of six and driver for D. F. Collins hauling contractors, was in a Ranchero driven by Fred B. Eastland when a stalled truck trailer rolled downhill and struck the vehicle. He died at the scene. three others were treated and released.

Former merchant Gifford Thomas Thweatt died at his Maysfield home at age 64. Funeral services will be held Thursday at Marek Burns Funeral Home with two officiants. Burial follows at Pebble Grove Cemetery. Survived by wife Loreine Thweatt, two sons Thomas and Donald, brother Vaughn, two sisters, and four grandchildren.

Five Cattle Killed in FM 2095 Truck Accident
A Bryan owned grain truck struck a cattle herd on FM 2095 at Hanover around 10 p.m. Tuesday. Five cattle died and one was crippled. the cattle were owned by Ruben Wise.
