Sheriff Carl Black said Edward John King Ollie Pettie Jr and Dennis Ray Pettie were charged in Justice of the Peace court and held for the grand jury meeting Tuesday The men tied to a Cameron county scam involved a pigeon dropping con that used bogus money with some real bills to swindle an elderly man The trio were named on warrants from Houston Corpus Christi and Austin with prior losses totaling 15000 in a similar case
Yee High School schedules its annual All Sports Banquet for Monday May 7 at Methodist Fellowship Hall to honor athletes in football basketball track baseball volleyball tennis and golf. George Kirk former Yeeman coach and current Baylor offensive coordinator will speak. Booster Club will award Booster of the Year and MVP as football sweetheart is crowned. Tickets 2.50 sold at banks or the high school office.
Cameron volunteer firefighters answered two calls Sunday. A car caught fire and a power transformer on a pole also ignited. No injuries reported and investigators had not determined the causes.
Local LP and butane distributor Bob Wells says Milam County should avoid winter shortages, while a national gas crunch looms. He notes existing contracts and nearby underground storage, but warns Texas farms and rural homes face fuel risks next winter amid rising diesel and automotive fuel prices.
