Bell County Soldier Believed Hero at Vimy Ridge
Temple Texas April 23 reports from Canadian officers tie the unknown Texan hero of Vimy Ridge to Robert Bob Davis of Temple and Bell County son of a preacher farmer. Davis, born December 5 1883 in Williamson County, served as a company sergeant in Ontario troops and was said to have a foot shot away at Vimy. His family and Bland Bell County roots frame a tale of a mountain lad who later enlisted in the US Marines before joining Allied forces.

French Offensive Seizes 33 000 German Prisoners In Week
French forces push from Soissons toward the Champagne region capturing villages between Sessions and Rheims and forcing thousands of German troops to surrender. In Ville-Au-Bois and surrounding sectors 1 800 Germans surrendered with 180 machine guns and 75 cannon seized. French gains extend from Juvincourt to the Aisne as German counterattacks are repelled with losses.

Bridge Fire Near Burlington Reported as Deliberate
About 12:30 last Friday night a railroad bridge two miles from Burlington was found in flames by a Lap night watchman. The depot agent and telephone operator were notified and a wrecker from Cameron arrived within minutes. The fire appears intentional with no clear ignition point and no clues yet to its origin.
