A Cameron school board vote 4-2 against providing space for four tennis courts faces criticism. Six young men were arrested in Cameron and charged before Justice of the Peace Jess Brock with possession of marijuana. Bonds ranged from 500 to 1 000 dollars. Suspects include Donnie Fikes 17 Frank Borgas 17 Rudy Amazola 24 Jimmy Lattimore 21 Maynard Vernon Khal 20 and Alvin Rosemond 21. Khal is a Fort Hood soldier from Florida Stationed in Cameron.
Cameron school trustees met in a special session to inspect the high school facilities and voted 4 2 to seek estimates for repairing shower and dressing rooms. They rejected a tennis association request to build four additional courts on campus.
A Friday evening one car crash sent David Lee Pittman of Rt. 2 Cameron to St. Edward Hospital with chest injuries. Passengers Jeffrey Brooks 15 and Eldridge Brooks 10, also of Rt. 2, suffered minor cuts and bruises.
Rogers prepares for a Saturday Bicentennial celebration with a public recognition as an American Revolution Bicentennial Community. Dignitaries will attend a 11 a.m. ceremony, with local commission members, school band, student council, clergy, and state and county officials presenting certificates and flags.
Moto-Cross racers raised donations Sunday for repairs to a motorcycle that burst into flames during practice laps at the track. Owner Paul Kochi was unharmed. Estimated bike damage was 300 dollars. Cen Tex Moto-Cross and others contributed.
The registrar deadline for credit by examination at Temple Junior College is May 1 with exams on May 17.
