Cyclone destroys Conley home. photo found miles away

A photo of Mr. and Mrs Homer Conley was found in E. M. Cook'sBen Arnold field ten miles from their home, demolished by the April 8 cyclone. A surplus ration book belonging to R. C. Conley was found with the picture. The Herald received both items from Mr Cook. The photo is believed to show the couple shortly after marriage.

Brothers in arms Fritz R Galler serves at Camp Maxey

Staff Sergeant Fritz R Galler is stationed at Camp Maxey Texas after enlisting October 22 1943 as a volunteer. He has earned promotions and served in Fort San Houston San Antonio Camp Willis and Camp Maxey while assigned to infantry. His brother Private Alfred H Galler is a prisoner of war captured in the Philippine Islands during the Japanese attack.

Galler Brother Held as Prisoner of War in the Far East

Buckholts native Pvt. Alfred H. Galler listed as prisoner of war after the Japanese attack on the Philippines. Enlisted 1941 trained in San Diego and served at Ft. Mills. His family, including Sgt. Fritz R. Galler at Camp Maxey, had waited for word until a War Department notice on February 23 confirmed his capture. The Kaiser era note mentions two Galler sons in service.
