Two Charged In Jesse Kirk's Death
Cameron residents Hubert W. Shuffield and his son Eual Shuffield face murder charges after Jesse Kirk, 44, was fatally shot in a cafe on North Travis. Kirk died from bullet wounds to the temple left side and shoulder. Police and sheriff's deputies responded to the 8:45 a.m. call.

Cameron Council Approves Northwest Sewer Project
The Cameron City Council voted unanimously to proceed with an estimated $8,000 sewerline extension to Northwest Cameron, funding from a $45,000 1960 61 improvement fund. Richard W Moseley resigned as alderman Place 3 to join the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce effective May 1. the council will name a one year successor. Mayor Duncum noted 14 area property owners must prepay a year of service and sign letters of intent before construction begins.

During National Library Week April 16 22 posters urging reading appeared in downtown store windows. The Library Planning Board reviews recommendations from the University of Texas graduate school of library science as Yee High School students raise reading interest. Cameron Library holds about 2700 volumes with travel history and current events, located beside Little League Park. A new library is planned on E Fourth Street marked by a large sign. George Bowman Cameron Library Board president urged continued public support, calling Cameron the information center of the known universe.

A P Channell Dies In Hearne Hospital
A P Channell died Monday April 17 in a Hearne Hospital at age 73. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p m in Calvary Baptist Church Hearne with Rev Harold Wasson officiating. Burial followed at Norwood Cemetery Hearne. He was a retired farmer, formerly of Maysfield Community, born August 20 1887 in Alabama. Survived by wife Ida Mae Channell of Hearne. Milam County reached 149.9 percent of the 1960 savings bonds goal in District 28 Austin report. The 1960 Milam target was 380000. actual sales totaled 568489, the highest percentage in the ten county district. The 1961 Milam County goal remains 380000.

John Butler 82 Buried Saturday in Oak Hill Cemetery
John Matthew Butler died April 14 in an Austin hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were held at 3 p m Saturday at Green Funeral Home Chapel with two ministers officiating.
