City Council approves Mayor Weems signing a 52 931.70 federal grant for a sewage filtration plant and accepts certificates for bond deposits. They set a deadline in May for Cameron’s grant acceptance and approved a real estate search for plant land. New officials take oath and Roy Griffith becomes mayor pro tem.
Public Works Sept W D Bigbee outlined city street department expenses for the last six months and compared them with the 1951 56 period. He cited a savings of 791.25 monthly against the five year average and said 1957 costs should stay within a 23807.60 budget, enabling about 4000 for storm sewer work. Redesigns on Country Club Estates Adams Avenue and West Third St sewer lines saved Cameron about 5000, and gasoline costs show a 1613.33 saving over the five year average with current costs 1524.96 versus 3138.29.
Yoe High School dramatic actors won three best awards at district competition but finished second overall. Nita Archer earned best actress for Special Guest at Stephenville, with Marie McDermott and Barbara Young taking best supporting honors. Directors questioned why the VHS production did not secure district first. Other cast members included Jeff Burks and Emory Camp.
Coffield Construction Co of Rockdale was the low bidder for the 50 unit Cameron Housing Project with 472 438 72 dollars. Narvie L Caperton, housing authority chairman, said 13 bids were opened. Two developments will be built a 14 unit non white and a 36 unit white in Cameron Texas.
Cameron Theaters Inc. wins city council approval for a franchise to transmit motion pictures to local homes via coaxial cable. Dean White says the service adds TV movie entertainment without replacing regular television and will be billed monthly once a second reading enacts the ordinance.
Forecast calls for a mild sunny Easter weekend if rains clear. Early week showers dropped 0.38 inches on Monday and 0.12 on Tuesday in Cameron. Yearly precipitation reaches 9.7 inches by press time.
Cameron congregations and ministers join in three hour Good Friday Easter services at The First Methodist Church noon start. The service centers on the seven last words with meditations and pastoral messages. Local businesses will close noon to 3 p.m. to allow worship.

The board approved continuing the policy, delayed a response on playing Killeen's integrated football team, and added new members Dana Monroe and F W Vogelsang along with other personnel moves and safety measures.
Cameron Chamber of Commerce members voiced support Tuesday for creating Elm Creek Watershed District. They urged contacting state senators and representatives to aid passage of the bill under study. Buster Griffin outlined eight large dams plus smaller ones in Milam County and potential municipal water supply during droughts.

State Representative Reuben Talasek files a libel suit in Bell County District Court seeking 200000 in actual and exemplary damages from Basse Wilson and Herald Publishers Don Scarborough and John Cardwell plus 50000 against Wilson. The suit references a March 14 Herald front page about a $64484.92 judgment tied to promissory notes and checks held by Wilson.
