Digbee Reports Street Costs In Half Year

Public Works Sept W D Bigbee outlined city street department expenses for the last six months and compared them with the 1951 56 period. He cited a savings of 791.25 monthly against the five year average and said 1957 costs should stay within a 23807.60 budget, enabling about 4000 for storm sewer work. Redesigns on Country Club Estates Adams Avenue and West Third St sewer lines saved Cameron about 5000, and gasoline costs show a 1613.33 saving over the five year average with current costs 1524.96 versus 3138.29.

YHS Actors Win 3 Best Awards in District Play

Yoe High School dramatic actors won three best awards at district competition but finished second overall. Nita Archer earned best actress for Special Guest at Stephenville, with Marie McDermott and Barbara Young taking best supporting honors. Directors questioned why the VHS production did not secure district first. Other cast members included Jeff Burks and Emory Camp.

Cameron Housing Project Low Bid Set at 472 438 72

Coffield Construction Co of Rockdale was the low bidder for the 50 unit Cameron Housing Project with 472 438 72 dollars. Narvie L Caperton, housing authority chairman, said 13 bids were opened. Two developments will be built a 14 unit non white and a 36 unit white in Cameron Texas.

Cameron Theaters Inc. wins city council approval for a franchise to transmit motion pictures to local homes via coaxial cable. Dean White says the service adds TV movie entertainment without replacing regular television and will be billed monthly once a second reading enacts the ordinance.

Cameron Independent School District voters favored not fielding integrated athletic squads in a poll of parents by 76 percent.
