Congress Rides Time On Daylight Savings

Congress delays daylight saving action as the Senate backs a seven month period from March 14 to October 10 while the House Commerce Committee stalls. If unchanged the normal 1966 law would start daylight time April 25, with airlines urging schedule changes and farmers noting drawbacks.

Airborne School Marks First Jumps for Texas Guardsmen

The 36th Airborne Brigade at Camp Mabry Austin completed its first and second jumps at Ft Hood and Camp Mabry. Eighty eight Guardsmen jumped with one minor injury and two others, as the class prepares for three more jumps next weekend to earn their wings at the unique five weekend school drawing recruits from across Texas.

Police sponsor merchant safety program in Cameron

The Cameron Police Department hosts a Wednesday April 14 7 30 p m event at the Cameron Community Center for local merchants and employees. Topics include shoplifting hot checks and unlawful acts in business places with films and talks by Floyd Tippit Cecil Wingo and Charles Smith. The session is open to citizens and store staff.

New Rogers Councilmen Take Office in Small City

New Rogers city council members Bill Sherman Billy Ray Crow and Dean Gommert were sworn in at a Thursday meeting. Election results were canvassed and approved. The council reviewed an audit of 1975 finances by Maness Broome and Associates of Temple but tabled action until the next meeting. Mayor Persky said the audit may be approved after further study. He will ask Continental Telephone for more pay phones. the city now has three but five are needed.

Redbud Queen Crowned at TWU Festival in Denton

Miss Diane Lucko daughter of Mr and Mrs Monroe Lucko of Cameron was crowned Redbud Queen at Texas Woman's University Redbud Festival in Denton. A senior special education major she has served as Redbud princess three years and holds leadership roles in Chaparrals University Women’s Association Campus Government Association and President's Cabinet. She is a 1972 C H Yoe High School graduate.

Red Cross Blood Mobile to Visit Cameron on April 13

The central Texas Red Cross blood mobile will visit Cameron on Tuesday April 13 from 12 moon until 6 p.m. at the Methodist Fellowship Hall. Quota is 73 units. Mrs Glenda Moseley, local blood program chairman, notes the city has been meeting its goal and urges donors to help keep donations up, citing last year’s shortfall. The Easter season’s spirit of giving should motivate more people to donate a unit.
