Milam County voters favored interim Sen. William Blakley over five leading candidates in a 2 079 vote Texas Senate race with 610 ballots while Jim Wright posted 405 and Will Wilson 373. Tower led among Republicans with 365 as runoffs appeared likely.

Houston Man, 66 Charged After Burglary Here

Houston police and deputy sheriff arrested James R. Clements 66 of Houston for burglary in Cameron Machine Shop. The shop was found entered over the weekend with about 600 dollars worth of tools missing. Clements, previously jailed for robbery, was intercepted after a traffic stop in a 1960 Ford and later charged in Milam County.

Eleven Milam area school votes show light turnout

In Milam County polls on Saturday voters in Sharp and surrounding towns elected new trustees and debated school moves. Sharp district chose Emory Brock Enbush and re elected Raymond Schneider while voting 95 35 at Sharp and 8 27 at Val Verde to keep six grade schooling for 1961 62.

Cameron City Council and School Board Elections Light Votes

Cameron saw light turnout in city and school elections. Three incumbents won City Council seats with Moseley returning for a third term, Wied and Smith earning first full terms. School board features five doctors and two other members, with Drs Richardson Tumlinson Evans Shapiro Knebel and superintendent How ard among leadership. Write-ins drew minor support for several names.

Local Lanes To Host Professional Bowler

National professional bowler Don Ellis will present bowling exhibits at Cameron Lanes on Sunday April 9 with two sessions at 2 p m and 6 30 p m He holds several 300 games including one sanctioned 300 and averages above 200 Ellis of the Brunswick advisory staff will run a bowling clinic and bowl games with local bowlers He will share tips for better bowling and the public is invited with a special invite to bowlers and beginners.

Lloyd Albertson Herald feature writer and Centennial editor was a finalist for a $1,450 prize from the Texas Railroad Association. Citizens urged to donate at Red Cross Bloodmobile

The Red Cross Bloodmobile will visit Cameron at the Methodist Fellowship Hall today from noon to 6 pm to collect donations for the Central Texas Blood Center. Richard Moseley, blood chairman, urges all citizens to participate and asks employers to allow employees to donate.

Buckholts Sailor to join Pacific Fleet exercise

Buckholts sailor Ver nel Williams gunner's mate seaman USN son of Mr and Mrs C Williams Rt 1 Buckholts serves aboard the anti submarine warfare support aircraft carrier USS Yorktown out of Long Beach California and will participate in a large U S Pacific Fleet exercise in spring 1961 nicknamed Green Light conducted by the U S First Fleet under Vice Admiral C L Melson.

Little River Water Group Forms to Seek Federal Aid

About 40 Milam County landowners organized the Little River Water Conservation and Flood Control Association at Milam District Court. C G Tomlinson was elected president and Walter White secretary treasurer. The group aims to work with the Corps of Engineers to ease Belton Reservoir water releases and to straighten the Little River channel. Col. West of the Fort Worth District pledged personal attention to the flood issue and possible federal aid. the association will pursue up to 300000 dollars for Stillhouse Hollow rectification.

Cameron City Council Reviews Sewer Plan and Tower Painting

The Cameron City Council discussed 7500 in sewer lines and pump station costs for Northwest Cameron and approved a 1843 bid to paint the water tower. After a 128 vote canvass, plans to extend sewer service to NW Cameron were explored with owner participation agreements. City attorney reported completed contracts and liens for E 11th St residents.

Good Friday Service Draws Cameron Hundreds

Hundreds attend the Good Friday service at First Methodist Church in Cameron from noon to 3 p m. The observance featured 25 minute programs directed by Cameron ministers led by Rev. Floyd Hawkins, Rev. Kenneth C Haley, Rev. H M Bowley, Rev. Gerald Cobb, Rev. A F Russell, Rev. Eugene Strickland and Rev. Loyd Burleson. Most Cameron stores closed for the services.
