Cameron honors Cpl Alfred A Simecek one of 800 liberated from Bilibid prison with a formal welcome on Friday April 6 1945. A parade from the residence via downtown to the courthouse lawn features a program with band life history interview war finance and a national anthem. School and business closures accompany the event with leaders from city civic groups speaking.

Miller buried at Liberty Sunday
Funeral services for J. T. Miller of Houston were held at 2 00 p m Monday April 2 1945 at Liberty Methodist Church. Miller a former Liberty resident died Sunday April 1 1945 in a Houston hospital from a gunshot wound in the head. Surviving are his widow three children and his mother Mrs Kate Miller all of Houston with sisters and brothers. Rev K R Isbell conducted the service and interment was in Liberty cemetery. Green Funeral Home directed arrangements.

Pilot Lt Talmadge Gunnels returns from South Pacific combat
Lt Talmadge Gunnels has returned to the states after nearly two years of combat duty in the South Pacific. He married Miss Margia Elizabeth Croft of Americus Georgia on March 26 in Freeport. The couple then traveled to Galveston before visiting relatives in Hanover and a wedding dinner. He reports for rest and reassignment in the Air Corps in Santa Anna California.

W L Waller Dies in Virginia at 73
W L Waller, 73, died Thursday March 29 1945 at his Martinsville Virginia home. Funeral services were held there March 31 1945. He was brother to George Waller of Cameron and long associated with federal banking agencies including the FDIC. He spent years with the Federal Banking Department and lived in Dallas before moving to Washington for Treasury FDIC work. E P Waller, another brother, lives in Martinsville Virginia.

Wal Jeter Newton Believed Lost At Sea
Wim Jeter Newton, U S Navy, served aboard an escort carrier near Iwo Jima and is believed lost after the Bismarck Sea sinking on February 21. A Navy telegram to his parents states he did not survive, though families hold out hope he was rescued. He was one of four sons serving in the armed forces.

PFC Herbert H Brinkmann Declared Prisoner of Germans
Mrs Gladys L Brinkmann of Cameron was notified by the War Department that her husband Pfc Herbert H Brinkmann is a prisoner of the Germans. He had been reported missing in action on December 18 1944. Their son Herbert Edward born April 3 1945 at Newton Memorial Hospital weighs eight pounds and both mother and child are doing nicely.

Molotov Accuses MPs of Aiding Germans and Japan Renounces Pact
Molotov charged that Soviet MPs aided Germany as Moscow announced the break with the non aggression pact with Japan. He said Japan has aided the Germans and will not renew the six year pact, ending April 13. The Japanese cabinet resignations followed the Moscow move and Allied forces near Germany and Czechoslovakia pressed advance toward Berlin.

He serves with the 7th Army Infantry and is the son of Mr and Mrs Joe Gandy of Thrall. Last Rites Held for Gunshot Victim John T Miller
Funeral services for John T Miller 26 of 1718 McCarty were held in Cameron after he died from a gunshot wound at St Josephs Infirmary. Miller was found shot in his car at 12 50 am Sunday with a 28 caliber pistol in his lap. Inquest by Justice Thomas I Decker ongoing. Miller survived by wife Margie Miller and family in Houston.
