Creek Marker Unveiled in Burleson County

An historical marker honoring Yegua Creek was unveiled last week in Bob Brantley Park Burleson County. Stephen F. Austin marked the creek which locals say means mare in Spanish. At that era Mustang mares grazed near the timered creek among Indigenous people.

Three Accidents Leave Twelve Injured Across Area

Wednesday to Friday traffic incidents injure twelve people in three DPS reported crashes. In Thorndale a motorcycle rider Joey Melton suffered a compound lower leg fracture when a pickup turned in front of him. Near Milano two cars collided injuring seven, including Baylor students Camille Ruset Pat Courter and John Liveris. In Pettibone three Buckholts students Sally Mendoza Stella Mendoza and Edward Mendoza were hurt when their car collided with Claude Carrington’s Texas City vehicle.

Badger Den Ranks Second Statewide in Journalism Awards

Texas DPS Reports Violent Crime Drop in 1976

Texas violent crime fell six percent in 1976 while property crimes rose four percent. The DPS report, compiled from uniform crime data across 93 percent of the state's population, notes murder down six percent and robbery down 14 percent, with theft up 10 percent and drug arrests totaling 52,789.

Easter Egg Roll at Cameron Library Lawn

On Tuesday at 3 30 p m preschoolers and early grades are invited to an Easter Egg Roll on the Cameron library lawn. Sponsored by Friends of the Library the event features an Easter story indoors by Mrs Dot Dietrich and refreshments served by Fleur de lis Garden Club members.

Community Good Friday Service Planned in Cameron

A community Good Friday service will be held April 8 from 12 15 to 1 p m in the Youth Exposition Building Cameron. Special music comes from the high school band with Rev Joe Dan Franklin of First Baptist Milano delivering the sermon. Children ages 1 to 8 are invited to attend with Easter baskets. Cameron firefighters were called to two fires at Walled Lake Door Factory in a sawdust hopper with no plant damage reported.

Judge Orders Youth To Jail

A 15 year old juvenile was placed in county jail by order of District Judge Don Humble after being charged with aggravated robbery. The incident occurred near St. Monica's Church at about 8 30 p m Wednesday. Juan Asebedo of Cameron reported the youth struck him, knocked him down, and took his wallet.

Cameron Schools Adjust Dismissal For Easter Break

Cameron schools will dismiss at 2 45 p m on Wednesday April 6 and buses will run then for the Easter holidays covering Thursday Friday and Monday.
