Approve Night School Committee Reconsideration On Tenure Rule

The School Committee reconvened to discuss a motion about placing faculty managers on tenure after five years of service. A 4 to 2 vote allowed reconsideration, then the matter was tabled. The board also voted to permit recreation department use of three schools two or three evenings weekly.

Death of Miss Mary Birmingham

Miss Mary Birmingham of 54 Pearl Street died last Saturday after weeks of illness. For 28 years she served as a clerk in the Water Department at City Hall. Funeral Mass was held Monday at Blessed Sacrament Church with Rev. Patrick J. Quill and others officiating. Pallbearers included William Bowie Manuel Andrews Robert Martin and others from the office staff. Supt. Timothy W. Good led a City Hall delegation. Burial followed at St. Pauls Cemetery Arlington.

Cambridge Red Cross surveys home accident risks

Forty Cambridge men trained in first aid and accident prevention are surveying Cambridge homes this week in cooperation with local officials to reduce hazards. Last year U S home accidents killed 4500 people maimed 150000 and injured 5600600 nationwide.
