Four-Year Plan Backers Dominate Primary Endorsements

The special committee on taxation released figures on 42 successful primary nominees. Of these, 29 endorsed the Four-Year Plan for Tax Reduction in the Voters' Guide, one opposed it, eleven were on the fence, and seven did not answer. Twenty-seven nominees received favorable ratings, eight were not impressive, and seven did not respond. The note ends with a question about a Central Sq business man who forgot to settle his bet on the recent fight.

Lynch and Lyons Vie as Voters Set Record in Primary

More than 30,000 voters cast ballots in the elimination, setting a primary record with 32,106 votes. John D. Lynch led the mayoralty race with 12,047, while City Council President John W. Lyons edged City Treasurer William J. Shea by 425 votes. A recount was set to start Friday October 18 if results change. Lyons would oppose Lynch in the November 5 election. Francia J. Roche disappointed supporters with a weak showing.
