Sen Blanchard Crosses Swords With Judge Counihan

At a Board of Appeal hearing on a Cambridge Savings Bank zoning change for 103 105 Raymond street to permit six family suites, Sen Arthur F Blanchard attacked the bank and its lawyer. Counihan called the plan likely to fail without adherence to zoning laws. He warned the current unoccupied property risks becoming an eyesore and rentability concerns were raised.

City Council Meeting Yields Meddling and Minor Debates

American Legion Donates Oxygen Tents to City Hospital

Cambridge Post 27, American Legion, presented two welcome oxygen tents to Cahill House maternity unit at City Hospital in a ceremony attended by about 200 people. They warned of potential war dangers and urged readiness to aid injured servicemen if invasion occurs.

Tax help event at Central Square Post Office

From March 10 to 14 the Internal Revenue Office on the first floor will be open 9 to 6 daily with experts to assist on tax reports. Saturday hours extend to 4 on the last day March 15.

Funeral Services Today for Mrs Edward W Quinn

Funeral services will be held this morning for Mrs Edward W Gately Quinn widow of the late Mayor who served 12 years as Chief Executive. A Solemn High Mass of Requiem will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church followed by interment at Cambridge Cemetery. She leaves a daughter Mrs Francis Roche a sister Mrs Arthur Campbell and a brother John P Gately.

Jacky Haley Buried at St Marys Church

John Haley known as Jacky from Fayette Street was buried today from St Marys Church. A retired El worker and son of Dan Haley he was beloved along Cambridge Street in the old horse car days and was a constant auditor at City Council sessions.
