Police Chief Leahy urged sedans for prowl use to cut costs and spare rear seat repairs. Finance Committee heard that more officers could patrol streets with coupes, while Roche warned officers would not ride in sedans. Leahy noted patrol limits and ambulance needs for injuries or prisoners.
The Cambridge Highway Safety Committee reports to Mayor Lyons on plans to reduce accidents starting Jan 1 1940. Hundreds of mourners gathered for the last rites of John J. Jack McCarthy a prominent local resident and political adviser who died suddenly Sunday night on the eve of an operation. He was about 48 lived on Berkshire Street educated locally and known for charity work and piano skill. He is survived by his wife Alice Chapman McCarthy four children Helen Drohan Alice Barbara and John all of 474 Windsor Street. Funeral services were held at the O'Brien Funeral Home followed by a high mass.
Mayor John W. Lyons met with Cambridge Post American Legion committee led by Comm Francis J. Smith to discuss donating an oxygen tent to Cambridge City Hospital The group said a second tent is needed at Cahill Maternity House due to high demand and plans a formal presentation once a latest model is procured with hospital trustees.
The city council reelled into chaos during a Tuesday meeting when a $100,000 loan order surfaced as missing. Clerk Burke argued the finance report referenced no loan order, triggering 20 minutes of shouting and confusion as councillors pressed for the absent document.

It allows duplicate federal and state returns, requires states to accept duplicates after next year, and lets compliant firms file annual federal social security and consolidated unemployment taxes. The consolidated return date would move from January 31 to February 28. An option to pay is also included.
