Church and Monastery to Rise Behind Boston El Car

The Boston Building Department reports active permits with major project plans. A two story Conventual Church and Monastery for the Society of St John the Evangelist at 978 980 Memorial Drive will rise in granite ashlar with a 24 foot tower, costing about 215000, by architects Cram and Ferguson and contractor Turner Construction Co. A four store brick block at 555 561 Mass Ave with cast stone front is planned at 23000, owned by Harris Ginsburg.

Gas Station Hearing Promptly Halted Over Location Plans

City Council Condemns Insurance Rates In Brief Session

In a 20 minute meeting Councillor Jerry Sullivan led a mostly empty chamber. The mayor vetoed abolishing Library Trustees citing the Rindge deed. A $75.80 boiler insurance appropriation and a land sale offer at Vas sar Lane were discussed. The insurance rate inquiry produced a blistering report criticizing exchange recommendations and city upgrades.
