Cambridge Tax Rate Raised for 1935 Amid City Budget Increases
The Legislature accelerated the tax year so Cambridge residents learn the 1935 rate of 41.00 per thousand, up 2.80 from 1934. City Schools, County, State, Met Park, and Sewers budgets total 8,935,109.41, up 196,212.90 from 1934. After receipts and poll taxes, 7,405,276.50 must be raised by real estate and tangible personal property tax, up 419,207.02. Major increases include City 145,792.80, Schools 95,174.36, and Welfare deficits 55,185.84. Real estate valuations drop 2,276,600 with tangible property up 11,700, net loss 2,264,900.
Urge Greek Convention for Cambridge City 1936
Delegates of the Samuel Greeley Howe Chapter 28 AHEPA plan to press Marlboro district leaders at the June 23 24 25 convention to choose Cambridge as the 1936 convention city. Local meeting at Odd Fellows Hall lists George Manousos Peter Yankis Edw Carson John Vargis James Karon as active organizers. Cambridge has about 2000 Greeks with half registered to vote.
