Manhattan Market Extends Hours for WPA Workers at Christmas

In a Christmas Eve aid effort the Manhattan Market kept its doors open from 10 to 12 to serve Cambridge WPA workers whose orders arrived late. Manager Joe Matarazzo organized staff volunteers to ensure food for the holiday. The market is praised for continued community service.

Council members praised for standing against street closures

Nine Stoughton city councilors who voted 9 to 4 against closing four Main Street streets near the Federal Housing project are commended for defending taxpayers. The Cambridge group press for lower taxes sees gains from its taxation campaign.

Christmas Entertainment at Cambridge Sanatorium

On December 23 1935 at 2 PM the Cambridge Sanatorium held its annual Christmas entertainment. Dr Leo T Myles Board of Health chair and two members spoke along with Dr Simon B Kelleher superintendent and Mrs Kelleher. The WPA vaudeville project Boston featured Jack Peniman with pianist and announcer. Patients received presents from the tree by Miss C Isabel Torney and enjoyed ice cream cake and candy.

License Board Hears Complaints On Charlies Tap

The License Commission heard charges against Charlies Tap at 280 Green Street after a December incident. A man allegedly intoxicated was admitted and later taken to hospital with doctor signed commitment papers. The board did not render a decision, noting insufficient evidence and addressing related notices about other local businesses.

City Council Reduces Streets Closure Efforts Amid Budget Talks
