The Byesville State Bank of Byesville Ohio advertises deposits savings accounts and first mortgage loans. It offers certificates of deposit and commercial checking and drafts. The bank keeps hours including Saturday nights until 8 p.m. and invites business from customers. Signed J A Hoopman cashier and C C Cosgrove president dated Mar 14 2w.
The notice mentions The Cambridge City Bakery offering a 110 cent loaf for home use and asks readers about trying Chop Suey there. It also notes L Minehart, among four men arrested Sunday night for drunken and disorderly conduct on a railroad train, appeared before Mayor Dilley and pleads not guilty with a hearing set for Thursday evening. In Washington, Taft sent a tariff board report urging cotton duty cuts and an emergency $20,000 monthly funding to continue its work.
A pleasant Monday evening at Mrs. Harriet Cross’s South Tenth Street home featured a surprise farewell party for Mrs. Gross by the Sabbath school class of the Second U. P. Church taught by Mrs. Minerva Ferguson. Eighteen ladies attended and a souvenir spoon was given. The gathering included a two course luncheon. The Gaston skating rink outing was chaperoned by Mr. and Mrs. James Clary for several local youths plus other attendees from the city. The annual Y S M society meeting of the Second U P Church met at Mrs. S W Hodgin’s East Beatty Avenue home with devotionals led by Miss Mabel McFarland.
William C Minto, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Thomas Minto of South Eighth street, died Tuesday morning at 5 from a lingering lung illness. Born March 25 1892 near Byesville, he was a Senior at Cambridge High School and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Funeral Thursday 2 PM at his parents home, Rev W L McCormick officiating, interment Northwood Cemetery. Willie Minto was a popular figure among friends. A birthday postal shower was held for him on March 25 by the Senior class.
The remains of Mrs. John Myers nee Josephine Cooper died at her Ithica Michigan home after a short illness. They arrived in Cambridge Monday night and Caldwell Tuesday for interment. She was born in Caldwell and married John Myers of Ithica last June. She attended Caldwell high school and worked in Caldwell Post Office, well known in Cambridge. She was accompanied by her husband and her mother who came from Ithica.
Mrs Lizzie Handcock widow of Frank Handcock died at her home in New Concord after a three week pneumonia illness. She was about 73, born in Adams township Guernsey county and moved to New Concord a year ago. A lifelong Baptist, she visited Cambridge often. Funeral will be Wednesday at 2 PM in the First U P Church conducted by Rev Rotzler with burial in the nearby cemetery.
James Edwards received a telephone notice from Coshocton on Monday afternoon announcing the sudden death of his brother Mark Edwards at his Byesville home. Edwards had been suffering with pneumonia, though his condition was not thought serious, and the end came as a great shock to friends.
A Byesville resident attended the funeral held Monday morning at 10 o'clock. The deceased was well known in the Byesville area and was remembered by neighbors and friends.
Cambridge aims to form a Young Women's Christian League to aid physical social mental and spiritual growth without a building. A meeting February 16 at the Presbyterian church organized committees and a plan led by Mrs Wiltsie and Miss Hughes established departments Bible study sewing nursing physical work and social activities. Membership costs 25 cents a month with one year enrollment and class work starts the first week in April with an open meeting March 28 at the First U P Church.
