In Zanesville on July 3 the Muskingum delegation backed Noble county’s J M McGinnis for Common Pleas Judge after a tense caucus at the Clarendon hotel. The convention split, with Guernsey and Noble factions pressing Mackey, yet McGinnis secured the nomination amid charged political maneuvering and claims of outside influence.
