Reports from Port Burwell Ontario and Amherstburg indicate the steamship Sylvania Macy and her 18 crew were lost in a Lake Erie gale near Long Point. The barge Mabel Wilson, towed by Macy, separated and sailed to Amherstburg. wreckage and empty cargo indicate the Macy foundered with all hands.
