The Interstate Iron and Steel Co Bar Mill workforce walks out over a wage scale dispute affecting the rolls workers. Management says operations will continue with replacements if needed while both sides seek a signed agreement, amid prior dissension and ongoing talks.
In Cowes England on August 3 the Russian Emperor Nicholas met King Edward and most of the royal family as the imperial yacht Standart arrived with a squadron of warships. The event ranked among Cowes most impressive royal observations and showcased the close ties between Russia and Britain.

Grace Vivians aged five and Thomas Vivians aged three were abducted near their parents home in the Italian colony of Wellston St Louis. A ransom note demanding 25000 dollars was sent to Pietro Vivano and a cousin claiming the children would be safe if the money was paid. Detectives guarded a Wellston address as parents searched for the missing kids. no abductors appeared and the case paused for the night.
Calhoun Harris secretary and assistant cashier at Orr Cotton Mills was arrested on breach of trust charged with embezzlement. Authorities say fifty thousand dollars are missing.
Mike Troyan, a Slavish coal miner at the Laura mine, Belle Valley Coal Co., Coal Ridge, Noble county, was struck by a motor and crushed on the track about 7 am. His body was dragged along the rails. Officials doubt whether the death was accidental or a deliberate act.

Guernsey Works was badly burned on both hands Monday night after tripping and falling onto red hot plates. The Hall and Henry store and post office at Glencoe nine miles west of Bellaire was robbed Sunday night. Burglars entered through a front window and stole merchandise valued at $50, postage stamps, money order blanks, and a few cents from the cash drawer before escaping by the same window. No crew found.
