In Boston on August 27 Miss Mollie Byram eleven daughter of Charles R Byram of Charleston fell from a high fence while gathering leaves. Her hands were pierced by long nails causing severe lacerations and shock. She hung by the nails until rescued and faces possible lockjaw with no current signs.

Saloon-keeper killed in Tennessee clash at Crocker's Crossroads
John Proctor, a saloon keeper from Adairsville, was stabbed to death by Alex Crawford and his son at Crocker's Crossroads, ten miles from Springfield. Proctor's wife had fled his drunken lifestyle and sought refuge with her father. An altercation over her removal ended with Proctor dying.
