A Washington dispatch reports August pension payments totaling 75000 in seventeen related cases. Richard Whiting of St Louis led with 12251.59, while Hiram Smith deputy commissioner re rated with 6035.82 and others received 6541.72 6341.35 and 5201.05. The awards follow a Chandler decision allowing pension for double disability.
Millville New Jersey August 30 Whitall Tatum and their green glass blowers reached an agreement after a conference yesterday. The firm will pay the wages demanded and enforce apprenticeship regulations from the Atlantic City convention. One furnace is fired up and will blast next week with two more factories to follow.
The Democratic State Convention in Columbus on August 20 chose James E. Campbell of Butler County as the gubernatorial nominee on the second ballot after a tense vote. Campbell defeated Virgil P. Kline and Neal amid discord over Hamilton County returns and calls for tariff reform.

A chilling moment showed Kepplen’s body skeleton visible after cooling in water.
A hospital elevator at the Philadelphia Lying-in Hospital plunged from the third floor to the basement when two cable strands broke. The elevator boy and five nurses sustained injuries ranging from contusion to fractures. Miss Wilkinson was reported in dangerous condition as helpers rushed to aid the injured group.
In Rome Georgia on August 31 a well dig near the city yielded a sudden cavern. Twenty five workmen located twenty five feet below the surface fell ten more feet into a large cave miles long with multiple chambers. A party forms to thoroughly explore the cave.
William Walker and Jack Spaniard, each respited from August 9, were hanged Friday in the Fort Smith jail yard in view of only a few spectators. Walker killed Calvin Price in Indian Territory about two years ago. Spaniard, a half breed Creek Indian, murdered U S Deputy Marshal Erwin in Indian Territory.
Porrsville reports Thomas Nankeville, who was shot by Samuel Tregea during a night burglary at Tregea’s Girardville home, died yesterday after firing five shots at Tregea prior to being wounded.
Edward Spencer aged twenty died Friday after being shot Tuesday by his stepfather Scott Standiford at Van Bibber's Station. Standiford was rearrested and jailed in Hartford County on a murder charge.
In Covington Kentucky on August 31 the jury found Von Gundy guilty of manslaughter in the high profile murder case of Terlau. Judge Perkins immediately sentenced Von Gundy to four years in the state penitentiary.
