Lester a known figure and former Deputy Sheriff of Erie County New York was an old friend of President Cleveland. He had served as Deputy Sheriff when Cleveland was Sheriff. The R G Ingersoll steambarge burned to the water line off Point Au Sauble Michigan on the 5th. The crew escaped by boat and were rescued. The barge is a total loss valued at 10000 with 7000 insurance. The Dubuque Iowa Loan Association office was entered on the night of the 6th and safes robbed of 12000 to 15000. Arthur Nettleton's murder trial for shooting Clarence White at a Paw Paw Illinois chaiterville ended on the 6th with the jury convicting him of murder in the second degree and a twelve year term.
