Mrs Nathaniel Strang of Jackson ville Michigan poisoned her daughter Maud with paris green and then drank a dose herself before forcing Maud at gunpoint to drink. Both women died within hours the daughter insisting her mother made her take the poison and begged for help.
A well dressed woman from Baltimore told Norfolk police she was chloroformed and robbed near the Catholic cemetery after visiting tombstones. She described two Black men striking her on the highway and stealing 65 dollars she carried. She was found unconscious and later brought to the station.

President Hayes and Secretary Wines were re elected to serve the next year.
Dispatch from Mpwapwa dated October 13 reports four Stanley soldiers and one Emin man arrived with 800 Soudanese and diverse followers marching from Noukmma to Ugogo in thirty three days. Emin Casati commanded 240 Zanzibaris and six lieutenants. expedition expected at Mpwapwa November 20 after brief rest. Both leaders had fought Mahdist bands and won repeatedly.

A private telegram from Washington reports the government won a timber depredation suit in San Francisco against Hite and Snyder. The verdict awarded $5,000 to the government. The case involved Interior Department agent Norton and was part of California timber depredation investigations led by special agent Conrad.
The Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe and Chicago Rock Island and Pacific railroads announce a ninety nine year traffic agreement to form a new Dodge City transcontinental route called the Atchison and Rock Island line. The pact, taking effect Thursday, creates an offensive and defensive alliance against Union Pacific and Northwestern rivals.
