Jeremiah Shaw and his wife mourn the loss of their children Jeremiah aged 3 and Mary E aged two, found dead buried in a sand-bank near Shaw's Lane Haverhill. The children had been playing near the bank and were missing Tuesday forenoon before searchers uncovered the tragedy. The sunken bank, made dangerous by recent excavations, led to the fatal accident.

J A Shep ard of Chicago arrives in Ballston pursuing H K Chamberlain who acted as his district agent and allegedly kept several hundred dollars from work. Chamberlain, who wed Bertha Freeman of Baltimore in September after a brief acquaintance, vanished after three weeks of cohabitation. Reports say he may have other wives.
R G Dun and Co Weekly Review of Trade reports continued improvement in business prospects. Positive signals include a favorable public reaction to the sugar trust ruling and proposed cotton oil reorganization, improving monetary conditions, and strong interior trade with ample money supply. Chicago shows expanded trade in dry goods clothing and shoes with higher receipts of most products except wool.
Ohio items report a bet between Jacob Moser and R F Cahill over Hamilton County results with a funeral expense prize. News notes include floods of cholera in Logan County and a series of deaths from accidents and train incidents across towns. Governor Foraker proclaims Thanksgiving Day 1889.
