Total Destruction of the Wells Elevator at Buffalo
A massive fire destroyed the Wells elevator in Buffalo on November 7 with losses totaling 520000. Firefighters battled high flames fanned by a southwest wind, saving nearby Wilkinson elevator and surrounding properties while steamers and fire tugs fought to control the blaze and prevent spread to river shipping. The Wells building, owned by the Chandler J. Wells estate, suffered 300000 in building loss and 220000 in contents.
