A morning collision between the seven o’clock Atlantic City accommodation and a Lakeside Park special excursion from Camden killed eight and seriously injured many. Engineers Palmer and Baxter, Conductor Smith, Baggage-master Vaughn, Mail Agent Wylie, and Fireman Barber were among the dead. Both locomotives were demolished and escaping steam blocked access for hours. The wounded were moved to Camden. The Camden Presbyterian Church excursion party was involved.
