Noted Confederate Scout recounts Lincoln kidnapping plot
A Confederate account details a planned attempt to kidnap President Lincoln in 1864, involving a lower Potomac route and Mosby aides. The narrator describes reconnaissance of the White House and Soldiers’ Home, the staged carriage exchange, and timing that could have placed Lincoln within Confederate lines within ten hours. The piece notes subsequent public notices and memorials to those involved in the era.

A Couple of Government Clerks With Strange Experiences
Two Treasury Department clerks in Washington receive notice for remarkable wartime histories. Harriet P. Dame, famed army nurse of the Second New Hampshire Regiment, endured four years and eight months under fire, was once prisoner at Bull Run, and later helped secure reforms in hospitals and transport. John C. Comfort adds rare Civil War relics, including John Brown’s handcuffs and two lead pigs linked to Harper’s Ferry, found near the Potomac by a girl digging for daisies.
