Joseph Palmer Executed in Cincinnati Under Old Law
Joseph Palmer colored was executed in the Cincinnati jail yard at ten after ten. The murder of William Kirk in December 1882 by Palmer and William Berner led to Berner’s manslaughter verdict and a riot at the courthouse in 1884. Palmer’s neck did not break immediately and the body was not cut down until hours later.
