The nomination of William I Bancroft as Collector of Customs for Huron District Michigan was rejected in the Senate secret session on the 5th. About forty nominations were left unacted upon and various appointments were announced including Pension Office examiners with salaries of 1400 dollars per year. The Forty ninth Congress saw 13202 measures introduced in seven months and twenty eight days, with 10014 House bills and 14 joint resolutions from the House, 2891 bills and 85 joint resolutions from the Senate. The President sent 2450 nominations, around 150 withdrawals occurred. The Senate rejected twenty seven presidential appointments and forty nine remained unacted. The record spans 8630 pages, about 1500 more than prior sessions. Thomas Cooper and Nelson F Acers were named for revenue posts in Illinois and Kansas, while the Comptroller authorized the First National Bank of Sault Ste Marie Michigan to start with 50000 dollars capital.
