John N. Simpson of Dallas, the South’s largest cattle owner, says the mood is down but not as dire as some reports. He debunks a Denver dispatch on 50,000 head being turned back, notes this drive may total around 75,000 head with 53,000 contracted. Dr E D Stanford of Louisville Kentucky died early Tuesday morning after a week of illness brought on by last weeks heat. He was 56, vigorous and active in his campaign to succeed Senator Beck. He had served as ex president of the Louisville and Nashville railroad and of the Jeffersonville Madison and Indianapolis Bridge Company. He was a large farmer and a director of Farmers and Drovers bank and was reputed as the wealthiest man in Louisville and among the wealthiest in Kentucky.

Fire at Essen Bakery Kills Several in Chicago
A three story building at 3 165 Archer avenue housed a bakery and tenements. Fire killed or seriously injured multiple residents including Marie Trudeau two and Mrs Mary Trudeau.
