Doomed man fights execution in Virginia scaffold scene
J Ed Prichett was executed in Dalvinia Virginia for outraging a young white girl near Danville last June. He fought the trap and resisted stepping on it, needing four deputies to complete the process before the trap finally sprung. His body was sent to the University of Virginia for dissection.

Battle with moonshiners leaves three dead in Knott County clash
A Kentucky siege near Brass Forks on the Kentucky River in Knott County ended when Deputy Marshal Russell Wireman and four bailiffs faced twelve moonshiners. Wireman was killed, one bailiff seriously wounded, and two outlaws reportedly slain. The fight occurred Tuesday morning, but word reached US Marshal Goss via dispatch Friday.

Wabash Train Falls Through Bridge In Missouri
A passenger train on the Ottumwa division of the Wabash Western railway plunged eight feet when a bridge near Queen City collapsed after piles burned out.
