Red Cross Notes Report Fair and War Work Room

The Red Cross plans a country fair on Friday at the Anderson Toms home with a jitney bus service. The Armen trout building hosts a new well ventilated work room in use for war duration, funded by business donors. The Red Cross seeks a cupboard desk and knives and thanks the Red Men’s lodge for six months use of their rooms.

Palm Nut Cracking Drum Wheel Breaks Shells Fast

In Central America a machine cracks ten tons of palm nuts per hour using a fast revolving drum wheel fed from a hopper. A 1800 pound force splits the half inch shells as the wheel turns 800 times per minute, hurling nuts against breaker blocks to fragment them. Fragments are discharged via a pipe and air blowers separate shells from kernels.

Largest Jade Block Found Exhibited at New York Museum

A 4710 pound nephrite jade block seven by two by one feet is shown in the foyer of the New York Museum of Natural History. The block, unearthed in Germany, could supply material for all known prehistoric nephrite objects in Europe according to Scientific American.
