The body found in the Rockaway River near the Pine Brook bridge has been identified as Charles Smith thirty three of Mountain View by his wife at the Caldwell morgue. Smith formerly served as coachman for John Caputicks of Mountain View and had been unemployed for eight months. The report suggests self-inflicted death rather than accident.
At a Bartlett Post meeting G A Ri of Caldwell outlined Decoration Day plans. A parade through the Borough will invite Jr O U A M CaldwellacaVerona Caldwell women and public school children. Special services will honor soldiers at graves and children will decorate them afterward.

The Caldwell Y M C A marks its anniversary Friday May 12 in Association Hall with speakers Professor Morris L Barr Newark High School and Rev Arthur Lucas Paterson. A student Congress exhibit and a musical program by local talent accompany an ice cream and cake reception after a 25 cent admission.
The Caldwell Woman's Club held its election at Miss Margaret M. Hoage's home. Mrs. Laine was unanimously re-elected president but declined. Mrs. A. G. Butler was chosen as successor. Officers named: vice president Mrs. Gosman, secretary Mrs. Canfield, treasurer Mrs. Baldwin. Executive committee includes Mrs. McChesney, Mrs. Chester, Mrs. Speer, Mrs. Budd, and Miss Van Emburg. Delegates chosen for Federation meeting in Passaic, May 31. Next meeting May 12 at Mrs. Canfield's home. Social event with program led by Mrs. McChesney and Miss Jacobus. members to meet at Mrs. Laipe's to proceed to Mrs. Canfield's residence.

The Caldwell borough council approves a bond for March 13 1906 to fund water main extensions from Bloomfield avenue to residences on Old Road Brookside avenue Westville avenue and other streets. It orders bids for construction and enlists Engineer James Owen to study a complete pumping station well locations and costs. Road work on Hanford Place is authorized and funds allocated for road repairs. Meeting adjourned to Monday in May.

Rag car contest at Miss Grannies home with prizes for sewing efforts. many locals attended including Beasie Kent, Margaret Webb, Ruth Rathbun, May Collins family, and others.

Truancy cases noted and School Savings Bank shows a balance of 139.10 after 25.54 withdrawn from 164.44 deposited.
At a Verona Board of Health meeting Dr Henry B Whitehorne warned of increased illness with two diphtheria cases one cerebrospinal meningitis case and three scarlet fever cases. He urged formaldehyde fumigation and emphasized multiple cultures to detect and track diphtheria. The board hired D Heber Baldwin of Montclair and planned actions against a claimed public nuisance at Samuel Sandersons cottage.
The Junior Epworth League of Caldwell Methodist Church held its first meeting of the year electing officers including President Martha Thurston and Vice Presidents Martha Duryea Grace Van Ness Lille Jacobus and Tordene Jacobus with secretary treasurer likely Mrs. W W C Walker assisting as supervisor.

The Souvenir Whist Club entertained guests Mr and Mrs Arthur Benham Mr and Mrs Lemuel Jacobus and Miss Rich for a Thursday evening. Highest scores were earned by Mrs W Barnette Smith Mr Rich Mr Roland Jacobus and J W Singback.
Arrear of unpaid Verona taxes will be sold at public auction on Thursday afternoon May H1 at two o'clock. The sale will occur at the Bloomfield Avenue Township Committee location. Unpaid arrears and related taxes will be offered for settlement at that time.
