Norton Kansas May 4 The celebrated case of Chauncey Dewey millionaire ranchman Clyde Wilson and A J McBride cowboys employed by Dewey charged with killing two Berry family members in Northwestern Kansas ended in the district court with the judge dismissing the defendants without trial The prosecution had failed after the defense was ready The three defendants were all acquitted a year earlier after a sensational trial for the murder of another Berry family member Chauncey Dewey son of the late C P Dewey a pioneer Kansan managed his father s ranch at the time of the killings

A Jerico Springs report says Ira B. Shumate of Jerico Springs Nevada died by shooting himself in the head. A member of the Eighth Corps of Volunteers who served in the Philippines, he was an officer of the Jefferson Guarda at the St. Louis World's Fair and recently married a St. Louis woman.

Indictments Filed Against Franklin County Residents

Jackson Mississippi May 8 Indictments returned against 200 or 300 Franklin county citizens charging whitecapping. Dr A M Newman sheriff of the county is named on the list, arrested and later released on a 1500 bond. His case set for next Wednesday.

Mrs James McGuire aged 16 walked from Cedar county to Jefferson City to plead with Governor Folk for the release of her 14 year old husband confined in the penitentiary on a horse stealing charge. The boy, married last June, was driven by his father in the offence. The young wife says she is an orphan with no money and hopes Governor Folk will grant clemency.

Guards Master’s Body on Mountain

The body of seven year old Andrew McCaulty was found on a mountain near Mt Carmel LA after days of search. A loyal dog guarded the boy’s body, attacking a rescuer until the father arrived, then watched at the door as the child was taken home. The boy died from exhaustion and exposure, about five hours before discovery.

New York reports say a diamond necklace owned by Mrs. W K Vanderbilt worth 50000 was recovered after a Florida theft. Baggage men on a Florida line were arrested. one confessed. Killing of Younger Brother in Missouri Farm Quarrel

William Powell 85 was killed by his 70 year old brother A J Powell at the latter's Weaton Missouri home after a quarrel over borrowing $2. William tried to enter, drew a knife, and was struck with a shotgun a pipe and an axe. He left a wife and six children the oldest 9. Both men rented nearby farms and were neighbors across from the city. A J Powell was arrested after the slaying.
