Norton Kansas May 4 The celebrated case of Chauncey Dewey millionaire ranchman Clyde Wilson and A J McBride cowboys employed by Dewey charged with killing two Berry family members in Northwestern Kansas ended in the district court with the judge dismissing the defendants without trial The prosecution had failed after the defense was ready The three defendants were all acquitted a year earlier after a sensational trial for the murder of another Berry family member Chauncey Dewey son of the late C P Dewey a pioneer Kansan managed his father s ranch at the time of the killings
A party of St Louis and St Joseph capitalists led by ex Gov D R Francie inspected Jarilla New Mexico copper and gold properties for days and took a controlling interest They plan to build a smelter to process mine output The mines lie on the Rock Island line about thirty five miles from El Paso and have yielded ore shipped to the El Paso smelter

Rev F G Roberts of Carbondale, a traveling evangelist for the Christian church, was expelled on charges of gross immorality after a Carbondale trial. Special Agent W E Brigge of the Illinois Central had watched him since last October. Roberts left before the board could hear extenuating circumstances.

A Jerico Springs report says Ira B. Shumate of Jerico Springs Nevada died by shooting himself in the head. A member of the Eighth Corps of Volunteers who served in the Philippines, he was an officer of the Jefferson Guarda at the St. Louis World's Fair and recently married a St. Louis woman.
Jackson Mississippi May 8 Indictments returned against 200 or 300 Franklin county citizens charging whitecapping. Dr A M Newman sheriff of the county is named on the list, arrested and later released on a 1500 bond. His case set for next Wednesday.
Caleb Powers asks the Scott county circuit court to move his conspiracy trial to the United States district court for the eastern district of Kentucky. He claims equal protection violations under the fourteenth amendment due to a disputed pardon and allegedly packed Goebel Democratic juries in all three state trials, with ex Governor Richard Yates and Frank S. Black serving as counsel.
The Naval Observatory flashed a global electric signal starting in Washington at 11 55 PM with Secretary Morton touching the button. The light circled the world in seven seconds, moving westward across continents and oceans, pausing before midnight as bulbs on a world map lit in sequence.
Judgment for 6439 entered in county clerk's office in favor of William R. Hearst against Charles A. Towne. It stems from a $6000 note with interest dated February 16, 1904, payable in one year. Towne says he was hired to write articles for Hearst papers but was never called to deliver them.
Guthrie Oklahoma March 8 The grand jury at Beaver City indicted A L McPherson president and Ed E McPherson cashier of the Bank of Beaver City which failed several weeks ago The president faces two counts of embezzlement and the cashier two counts for making false report and embezzlements

Weather in the Northwest from North Dakota to Winnipeg brought heavy wet snow from six inches to a foot. Northern Pacific reports rotary snow plows active on many branch lines, breaking all previous records. Farmers hail the snow as a blessing because the ground is very dry.

News from Missoula Montana dated May 8 reports F W Schulze a Vandalia Missouri attorney killed at Sand Point Idaho by three masked robbers. Schulze died after a shot through the abdomen as militia pursue the slayers.
Mrs James McGuire aged 16 walked from Cedar county to Jefferson City to plead with Governor Folk for the release of her 14 year old husband confined in the penitentiary on a horse stealing charge. The boy, married last June, was driven by his father in the offence. The young wife says she is an orphan with no money and hopes Governor Folk will grant clemency.
The body of seven year old Andrew McCaulty was found on a mountain near Mt Carmel LA after days of search. A loyal dog guarded the boy’s body, attacking a rescuer until the father arrived, then watched at the door as the child was taken home. The boy died from exhaustion and exposure, about five hours before discovery.
Pueblo Colo May 8 The conviction of E H Wilson a former city detective by a jury last night forms the latest phase in the most sensational case of crooked positive ever known in this city Wilson was charged with conspiring to cause fake registration and fraudulent voting Mrs Blanche Shaw swore that Wilson arranged for the voting of many bogus ballots and vouched for her under each of the many names under which she voted at the April election
New York reports say a diamond necklace owned by Mrs. W K Vanderbilt worth 50000 was recovered after a Florida theft. Baggage men on a Florida line were arrested. one confessed. An accomplice suspected, later found wearing the jewels thinking them paste, surrendered the property. Authorities say many other jewels were found at the baggage man’s home.
William Powell 85 was killed by his 70 year old brother A J Powell at the latter's Weaton Missouri home after a quarrel over borrowing $2. William tried to enter, drew a knife, and was struck with a shotgun a pipe and an axe. He left a wife and six children the oldest 9. Both men rented nearby farms and were neighbors across from the city. A J Powell was arrested after the slaying.
Chillicothe May 6 A P Shour former secretary of the Farmers Loan and Building association was convicted by a circuit court jury of embezzlement. He faces two years in the penitentiary for allegedly misappropriating more than 9000 dollars of the association funds.
An advertisement claims Electric Bitters relieve and cure ague and malaria, asserting a true curative effect without quinine’s after effects. E S Munday of Henrietta Texas reports his brother recovered from malarial fever and jaundice after taking the tonic, sold at Frank T. Clay's drug store for 50 cents.
